Nepal's auditing standards are in the middle of a phased modernization aligned with international standards — worth understanding if you're evaluating an audit firm's readiness.
What NSA 2024 Is
Nepal Standards on Auditing 2024, issued by the Auditing Standards Board, are based on more recent International Standards on Auditing (ISA) pronouncements than Nepal's previous framework — part of an ongoing effort to align with global best practice.
Phased Rollout
Voluntary application began in July 2024, and mandatory application took effect from July 2025 for the core standards. Certain quality management and related standards — including Nepal Standards on Quality Management 1 and 2 — become mandatory from July 2026.
What Quality Management Standards Add
These standards require audit firms to build a formal system for engagement quality control — not just performing audits correctly case by case, but demonstrating firm-wide processes for consistency, independence checks, and risk management.
What This Means for You
As a client, this shouldn't change your audit experience dramatically, but it does mean audit firms are under growing pressure to formalize documentation — worth asking your auditor whether their quality management framework is already in place ahead of the July 2026 deadline.
Company Sathi follows current Nepal Standards on Auditing and stays ahead of implementation deadlines as they phase in.
